Flamenco is a unique language and rests at the heart of Spain's culture. Grounded through expression, passion and presence, and rooted through the soul of the gypsy's is a "living relationship"with the land.
Duenda is a term created through this unique language and experienced as a authentic, feeling-bond between dancer, the dance, and the interplay of internal and external space.
It is an earthly, feminine power which the dancer expresses in the moment of creation, the source belongs to the dark creative fertile spirit of the earth, and finds it's way to our soul through our open relationship to the cycle of death and rebirth.
Duenda manifest as elemental embodied spirit moving in waves through the physical and feeling body of our being.
Fragile or powerful, graceful or ferocious, vulnerable yet dangerous and expressed as explosive, percussive, gestures of movement and dance.
When we let go we instinctively release into the creativity of our soul and erupt into a crescendo.
Graced through prayer the experience of Duenda connects us down into the earth and rising like a mountain to touch the sky our body becomes a bridge between heaven and earth. This can never be imitated or repeated and manifest uniquely through each of us.
It takes us to the possibility of facing our wildness, rawest potential, knowing the struggle yet sensing there is, if only for a moment a dance beyond self.
No experience of Flamenco required, no steps taught,
but a grounding in 5Rhythms is essential.
